What beats a photograph on the ground of Air New Zealand’s first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in “All Blacks” style livery? One from the air, when it is not pouring rain.

The first ANZ 787-9 was rolled out of the paint hangar to a dark and rainy night, making it a bit difficult to see. This morning provides a bit better opportunity to highlight this unique black livery design — especially when viewed from a helicopter.

“It’s great to see the Koru and the beautiful New Zealand fern emblazoned on this aircraft.  This will soon be the first 787-9 aircraft anywhere in the world to operate commercially and I think it will instill a sense of pride in Kiwis and turn heads when it touches down at airports throughout Asia and the Pacific,” said Capt. David Morgan, Air New Zealand Chief Flight Operations and Safety Officer.

Their first 787-9 to be delivered will sport this black design, while the white version of this same design has already started to be incorporated into the fleet.

Simply beautiful. Would anyone know if any 787″s could land at LGA ? I work there and it would be nice to see one land there. Keep up the good work and have a nice day.

i just wanna see a real one. all i have is models and pictures. i don’t care where i see it. i would like to just see it at the gate. i just wanna see one SO BAD!!!!!

Being an Aussie, the rivalry with our smaller neighbour across the ditch usually equates to an obligatory dislike of things “kiwi” (And visa versa as I discovered when I lived in NZ for 4 years – many hold a passionate dislike of things Aussie).

However, I have always loved the teal and blue on Air NZ aircraft, and hoped to see it on their 787, but unfortunately it isn’t so.

Many Aussies & Kiwis agree that the new “silver fern” livery is like a promotional/marketing campaign of the NZ Rugby Union side “The All Blacks”….and I agree.

I really want to like it, but every time I see it…it’s an All Blacks marketing campaign.

Great photo just the same!!

its a cool plane. i don’t really know which one i like. altho I’m used to the teal and blue so ya i guess i miss it. i just don’t wanna see all ANZ planes like that.

Your right Patrick about the teal and blue scheme especially the old dc10 colours.

it really looks like a model but its cool anyway. i know its a real plane but still. i have a lot of model planes at home and they look like it.

i don’t know why i posted this

the white wings ruin the whole thing. the wings should be black.

i REALLY wanna fly one of these. unfortunately i have to live with the 777-300ER for now :(. same airline tho.

The new A N Zealand 787 flys directĺy over my house in east Auckland. It looks awesome in what some don’t like, colourwise. However, the black is unique to NZ and we’re bloody proud of it, so there !
Cheers, Alan.
