Aviation Geek Fest

Last Updated: 09/16/17

Tickets are now sold out for what is called “the largest and best meet-up for extreme aviation fans from around the world” is now open. AvGeeks will gather for the three-day event at the Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour to gain behind-the-scenes tours of the Everett and Renton assembly plants, fly drones, network and visit other aviation attractions and museums in Snohomish and King Counties.

Special VIP tours unavailable to the general public are arranged for registered AvGeeks. The Snohomish factory tours include inside views of a range of aviation manufacturers and international state-of-the-art aviation suppliers. In Seattle, the confab includes tours of the Museum of Flight plus lunch aboard a vintage American Airlines 727.

AvGeeks will enjoy a full range of activities, involving plane-spotting, guest speakers, limited-edition giveaways, breakfasts, lunch, dinner, transportation, and more. All profits will be used to fund the Institute of Flight education and financial assistance programs. There is one ticket, which will cover all three days (see below for the schedule) and each ticket will be just $250. The best deals in aviation and good times!

Aviation Geek Fest Schedule

Bits and pieces will still be moving around, but this is the current schedule that we can share:

Friday, 9/29, 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. – Future of Flight event: AvGeek Social on the Strato Deck, one of the top plane-spotting locations in the world. Plus food, drinks, live music, and camaraderie.

Saturday, 9/30 – Future of Flight events: Beginning with an 8:00 a.m. hosted breakfast, VIP factory tours, robotics, drones, and more. At 5:30 p.m. a hosted social hour begins; followed by a special dinner, featured speaker, prizes, swag, and more.

Sunday, 10/1, 10:00 a.m. – Museum of Flight events: VIP factory tour and box lunch aboard a vintage American Airlines 727.

There is also a PDF schedule you can download on the Future of Flight’s page with more details and timing.

Where to Stay

There are many different options in the area. Over the years I have seen people stay one night north, one night south, or both nights at one location. We have some hotels up north (by Paine Field) who are offering some special AvGeek rates (make sure to click the links on their names for those rates):

Getting Around the Seattle Area

Getting around the greater Seattle area is not easy — sorry! Friday and Saturday will be up north at Paine Field and Sunday will be down south at Boeing Field (closer to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport). Public transportation between all three is near impossible. Even using services like Uber/Lyft can add up quickly. Getting a rental is the easiest, but we have also had great luck with people carpooling. If you have an extra seat or are looking for a seat, reach out in the comments of this page!

What is Aviation Geek Fest?

“The international Aviation Geek Fest 2017, the most important event for commercial aviation fans from around world, is set for September 29, 30 and October 1 at the Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour at Paine Field, Mukilteo. The annual confab brings the top AvGeeks for three days of intense networking, VIP tours, special speakers, drone flights and more. Presented by the Institute of Flight with sponsorship and support from Airlinereporter.com. Details are being finalized. Preregistration will open in August.”

An Aviation Geek Fest is an opportunity for fans of flight to get together and experience some awesome, behind-the-scenes, aspects of airlines, airports, and aviation. Much of it is not open to the general public. The event can be as small as 10; the largest we have had so far is about 350.

The last event was held in Seattle in April of 2016, and 250 tickets sold out almost instantly. The demand is high for people who are interested in aviation to have a unique, special, and fun experience.

Previous events have done VIP tours, including the Boeing wide-body factory floor, the 737 factory, Dreamliner gallery, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Alaska Airlines maintenance, and much more!
