Watching an China Eastern A330 land at #Dorkfest
Watching an China Eastern A330 land — feels like you could reach out and touch it!

What is Dorkfest, you might ask? It’s a fabulous event created by our friend Brett Snyder (aka Cranky Flier), where a bunch of AvGeeks get together at the In-N-Out by LAX to look at airplanes, eat some chow, win airport/airline giveaways, and be around a great group of people. Sound interesting? Here are the deets:

There is no registration required for the main shindig, but if you want to be in the raffle to win awesome aviation-themed prizes or take a possible ramp tour of LAX, you will need to pre-register for those. To learn more about Dorkfest or sign up for the extras (as of publishing, the RSVPs are not yet open), then head to the main Dorkfest page

But wait… there’s more! If you plan to be in LA for Dorkfest, you should also consider attending #SpotLAX2026! It’s another great aviation event that happens on the rooftop of the H Hotel Los Angeles, which overlooks LAX. Here are the deets:

  • What: #SpotLAX2026
  • When: Friday, September 18th 4p to 9p
  • Where: H Hotel Los Angeles H Overlook
  • Cost: $25 per person (tickets are scheduled to go on sale 7/18)

There will be some great giveaways and food and drink for purchase. Tickets are set to go on sale on July 18th, so be sure to mark it on your calendars. To learn more and to get H Hotel discounts, head on over to the #SpotLAX2026 page

Watching a FedEx MD-11 land while eating at the Proud Bird restaurant

I have attended many times and even though the airplanes are amazing, I really think that the people are what make both of these events special! I plan to be there again this year, so if you see me be sure to say “hello” and we can chat about airplanes for a while.

I just booked my flights to LAX! I arrive 9/17 and return 9/21.

@Brett, @David, I know y’all will be super busy that weekend, would love to have any quality time over beers. I could even make a quick cameo on any podcasts for some extra fun. I can’t wait to see y’all!

I hope that we will be able to run into each other and chat!
