I just don’t believe these can be real… I mean the top speed of the model 40 has GOT to be way slower than the MINIMUM speed of the 787, thereby making formation flying impossible.
I thought the same thing when I saw the photos. I wrote to Boeing and heard back from their Director of Communications they are 100% real.
I am guessing the 787 flew past the 40C to get the shots. Boeing has two chase planes they use for photos and both were probably taking photos from different angles!

I’d bet that the 40C had the throttle firewalled while i can see that the 787 is just mushing along. Look at the AoA of the 787.
