Boeing 787 Dreamliner JA805A landing at Paine Field on December 23rd.

I am just getting word directly from All Nippon Airways (ANA) that they did complete the paperwork on the 30th of December for the delivery of their third 787 Dreamliner. Although ANA will not take possession of the aircraft until January 4th, the airline considers the signing of the paperwork as the “official delivery date.”

The aircraft will be JA805A (L/N 31), configured for long-haul international service.

Boeing had hoped to deliver five to seven Dreamliners in 2011, but additional delays hurt that timeline. They delivered their first 787 (JA801A) to ANA on September 27, 2011 and their second (JA802A) on October 15th, 2011.

That’s like saying you have taken delivery of a product once you order it on amazon and get the confirmation email, and that concept makes no sense whatsoever.

That is a sweet picture.

Actually Kris, it is not. When Boeing and ANA completed the paperwork, it was not just signatures on paper but ownership changed hands and ANA paid the final installment for the aircraft. That is a true delivery with the excahnge of goods for money.

Why is there no official word on this delivery from either Boeing or ANA? Or any reputable news media for that matter? Analysts are reporting that Boeing only delivered two 787s in 2011.

The information I received was directly from ANA. When asking Boeing to comment, I received, “We will be confirming 787 delivery numbers for 2011 in our Jan. 5 BCA news release.”

So, I am guessing it will be officially from Boeing tomorrow.

Thanks,

David
